Kazimierz Dolny by the Vistula
Kazimierz Dolny is the most popular day trip from Lublin, about 50 kilometres west on road 747. Buses run from the Dworzec Lublin terminal roughly every hour and take around 70 minutes for about 15 złoty.
The Renaissance Rynek, the ruined castle above the town and the Three Crosses Hill trail make a full afternoon. Try a kogut bread rooster from Piekarnia Sarzyński before heading back.
Zamość and the Ideal Renaissance City
Zamość lies about 90 kilometres southeast of Lublin and its Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. PKP Intercity trains run there in under 2 hours, and the pastel arcaded square is one of the best-preserved 16th-century town plans in Europe.
Plan time for the Zamość Fortress bastions, the Rotunda memorial and a coffee at one of the arcaded cafés on Rynek Wielki. The Chełm chalk tunnels work as an add-on if you’re driving.
Kozłówka Palace and Nałęczów Spa Town
The Zamoyski Palace at Kozłówka is a 40-minute drive north of Lublin and houses a striking Socialist Realism gallery alongside its aristocratic interiors. Entry runs about 30 złoty with full access.
Nałęczów is a small spa town 30 kilometres west, known for mineral springs and the Bolesław Prus museum. The park is free to walk, and the Pijalnia Wód drinking pavilion serves local spring water for a few złoty.
Roztocze National Park and Nature Days
Roztocze National Park sits about 110 kilometres south of Lublin near Zwierzyniec. It is best reached by car and offers marked trails like the one to Bukowa Góra for beech forest views.
Park entry is around 8 złoty and the Zwierzyniec base has cafés and a small museum on the park’s history. Add a swim at Echo Ponds if you visit between June and August.
Puławy, Janowiec and the Vistula Loop
Puławy is a 40-minute train ride from Lublin Główny and holds the Czartoryski Palace and English-style park. Pair it with Janowiec across the Vistula, reachable by a seasonal car ferry that costs a few złoty.
Janowiec Castle is a Renaissance ruin with views over the river, about 10 minutes from the ferry landing. A full loop of Puławy, Janowiec and Kazimierz Dolny works as one long day trip if you are driving.
Chełm and the Chalk Tunnels
Chełm sits about 70 kilometres east of Lublin and is reachable by Intercity train in roughly an hour. The Chalk Tunnels under the Old Town run guided hour-long visits for around 25 złoty.
Pair the tunnels with the Basilica of the Virgin Mary on Góra Chełmska hill for views over the rolling countryside. Most travellers do Chełm as a half-day before returning to Lublin by late afternoon.
Tips for Day Trip Planning
Check bus schedules at dworzeclublin.pl or e-podroznik.pl the night before, since weekend service runs less often. Carry some cash for rural ticket counters that do not always accept cards.
Pack snacks and water for longer trips, since rural stops have limited cafés. Lublin Główny left-luggage lockers help if you are arriving or leaving the city on the same day.
